Frequently Asked Questions
(subject to change)
Are you an "author
mill" or "vanity/subsidy" publisher?
No. We are a royalty-paying small press. Presently we use
on-demand digital
technology for the production of our titles. Our primary outlet for print
book sales is through Amazon.com however titles that reach a sales benchmark
are usually optioned for wider distribution.
Ebooks are available through multiple outlets.
How do you pay
royalties?
Royalties are paid on an annual basis. Royalties are
calculated as 30% of the net amount received for
electronic formats and 15% of the net amount received for
print formats for each sale. This rate is
non-negotiable.
Do you require an exclusive
contract? For how long? Do you offer an advance?
Yes. Two years from the date of
release. A small advance is frequently offered.
If I find I am not happy, can I get
out of my contract?
Yes, after one year from the date of
release. The book will be listed as unavailable/out-of-print (it may
take time for outside sellers to reflect this change). If due, any
residual royalties will be rendered during the next disbursement
period or within 90 days, whichever is shorter.
How many books can I expect to sell?
Numbers sold depend on many factors
such as genre, audience, marketing, etc. but as a general rule,
fiction works by unknown authors often do not sell in any great
amount. New authors should also be aware that some titles will need time to develop and earn their readership.
How much do print
books sell for?
Print books will start around $10-11 (for 100+ pg.) however the
actual cover price of any finished
book will depend on current production rates. Ebooks will
range from $3.99 and up.
Will I have to
promote
my own work?
Yes, however there are plenty of
ways to market a work with minimal cost; we highly advise a low-cost
approach and support this effort through our promo-op program
(below).
Do you help me promote my work?
Upon contract, our authors are provided
with a free & low-cost promo tipsheet, a sample eighteen-month
promotional plan, and a
link to a reviewer database to get them started and we send also out
bi-monthly emails with five to twenty promo
leads and opportunities every month.
Will you provide cover art?
A cover will be produced, either
in-house or through one of our freelance artists. If preferred, the
author may provide a cover graphic (that meets our standards &
requirements) at their own expense. We will still perform layout.
Can I republish the final produced
work with another publisher if I leave?
No. The author may only use/resubmit
their original (unedited) edition for re-publication through another
company once they are released from our contract.
Who sells your books?
Do you sell direct?
Printed books are usually sold
through Amazon.com however titles that reach a specific
sales
benchmark may
be optioned to have wider availability through Ingram and libraries as well.
Because
sellers can change their policies at
any time, there is no guarantee that any work will be sold
through any specific venue. Presently,
we only sell .pdf versions of our ebooks direct; for other
formats, buyers are directed to our
distributors/online vendors.
Can print editions be
ordered through or in bookstores?
If a title is optioned for wider distribution, it may be able
to be ordered through bookstores. (see above)
I see you offer author’s discounts,
does this mean authors have to buy books from you?
No. There is no "required purchase"
clause in our contract.
Do you provide review copies?
We will provide a PDF review copy to
the author as well as to any reviewer that requests one from us.
Do titles you publish get a Library
of Congress Number?
Not at this time.
My full manuscript is under consideration
at another publishing house/agent, should I submit to you?
Not yet. Please be patient and wait
until you have heard from the other firm.
We
hope that this answers many of your questions --
if not, please feel free to send us an email.
