WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

FICTION WORKS

Completed novels, 35,000 to 65,000* words in length in:

-- science fiction/space opera
-- fantasy: futuristic
-- romance: science fiction/futuristic
-- any zombie or shapeshifter/werewolf-themed works
-- vampires: prefer classic/old-style vamps
-- spec fic/cross-genre works with similar themes

NONFICTION WORKS

We have tentatively reopened to queries for completed
non-fiction works with subject matter such as:

-- pregnancy & family relationships (humor tone pref.)
-- self improvement (upbeat, humor tone pref.)
-- sports: teams/history/memoir
-- arts/technology/video game topics

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

Third person POV preferred for fiction. Please have your manuscript critiqued, beta'd, proofread, and/or edited before querying!! Stories without a "happy ever after" are acceptable. Manuscripts that lean towards horror and/or those with intimate scenes should not be too graphic (no more than a mild R-rated movie). Reprints considered if previously published through a reputable publisher (print or elec). Please do not submit any previously self-published works. (See bottom of page for what else we do not want.)

FOR YA/TEEN MANUSCRIPTS:

Will consider YA titles with similar themes as above. Preferences: fast-paced, lots of action, smart characters, upbeat endings, limited "teen angst" (except for hero), no 'glittery vamps,' minimal cursing, no sex under 18 and/or pregnant teens.

ABOUT WORD COUNTS:

Noted word count is preference, however, a well-written longer work may be considered. No fiction under 30000 words.

ABOUT PROMOTION:

Authors are asked to help promote their title and while we do provide marketing support, we would still like you to give us a general idea of what you plan to do to help promote--see FAQs

OTHER INFORMATION:

- Authors are not charged fees to be published.
- Submitting a query or full does not guarantee publication.
- BLP reserves the right to reject any sub without reason or notice.
- We prefer to work authors 21+ and located in the US.
- We no longer provide feedback on rejected queries and/or subs.
- We have a reimbursement clause in our contract.

ROYALTY RATES

30% of the Net amount received for ELECTRONIC formats
15% of the Net amount received for PRINT formats

WHAT TO SEND:

All queries should include the following:

1. A subject line of QUERY: "TITLE OF YOUR BOOK"
2. A cover letter including bio, experience, goals, etc.
3. The title of your work, genre, and total word count
4. A promotion overview--required--see FAQs
5. Your Name, Pen Name, Email, and Website/Blog
        (if applicable)

Attach to your email in DOC or RTF format:

1. A brief synopsis
2. The first four chapters

Note to all authors, please be sure your work is complete before querying for we typically do not contract on proposal alone.

Always query from the "top down"--as in start with the biggest targets first  before you submit to us (for you never know who will bite). If your manuscript is already under consideration elsewhere, please wait until you hear back from them before querying. This goes for those who may desire an agent too--if it is your goal to be represented, please pursue that path first.

ACCEPTANCE RATE:

Our acceptance rate is very low. Currently, we request a full on less than 5% of all stories queried, and offer a contract on less than 1% of all manuscripts that are submitted.

WHAT WE DO NOT WANT:

Before you submit, recognize that we are not interested in ghosts,  GLBT, erotica, poetry, true-life, crime, nonfiction, historical, illustrated, children's, co-authored, anthology, inspirational and/or those work  that contain frequent cursing; material that is unpatriotic, anti-Christian, political-statement; pornography; abuse; or racial condemnation of any kind.
